Brendan Podlich accepting one of his 5 trophy haul for the 2008 points season.
Brendan won the 2008 QMDRA Bracket, Shootout, Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel & Extreme Championships and claimed many new records along the way. Peter Ward was victorious in the Pro Stock championship for his send year in a row.
Congratulations to both Guys on their achievements in 2008. The competition will be tougher in 2009 due to the rule changes in pro classes and the extensive testing thats been done in preparation by many racers.
The Dash for Cash Shootout was was tightly contested with Pete taking the win over Glenn in the final to claim the Trophy and winners cash! The final was a sloppy affair with the first or worst ruling coming into play to determine a winner.
Pictured is Brendan with his haul of hardware and the Dash for Cash final drivers Pete and Glenn laughing off their final performance.
Happy holdidays to everyone, enjoy the break and see you all back in 2009 for a fun filled yedar of RC Drag Racing!
The 2008 season has come to a close. The final race meet for the year will be a Dash for Cash Shootout scheduled for 13 December. We'll also have presentations for the 2008 class winners and include some open track time for grudge match racing.
Results of the last race meet saw Brendan clean sweep the day with wins in all classes which include; Top Doorslammer, Extreme and Shootout. Brendan also rattled off some spectacular passes in his extreme dragster reaching speeds of over 170k/ph!
Hope to see everyone on the 13 Decemeber to make the Dash For Cash 'kitty' a big one! Newcomers are welcome to come along and try dial your own bracket racing and give themselves a chance at taking home some cash in the process. Entry is only $10 , limited to 1 entry per person. Setup at 8am sharp.
Todd Commons resets his own Nitro Funny Car record to 1.786 @ 125.8 k/ph (78.17mph). Great job Todd!
The Top Fuel final, an all nitro affair was contested between Brendan Podlich & Peter Ward.
This final lived up to expectations as both drivers powered their dragster across the line together with Brendan prevailing by only 0.005 of a second!
Brendan, making all finals this meet also beat Ray in the Bracket final.
Ben Cruse prevented the hat trick by beating Brendan in the Pro Stock final.
Next race meeting will be as listed top of the page. If we can get more than 12 entries in shootout, we'll offer some prize money for the class. This is open to any 1/10 or 1/8 scale car, truck, buggy, bike etc. so come on over to South Pine Sports Complex and have a go at dial your own drag racing!
With rain consistantly falling on the 11 October ensured there was no racing on that day! Instead, attending members had plenty of time to discuss and implement changes to the rules and regs for 2009. Please ensure you read the new rules if intending to build &/or drag race a RC vehicle in 2009 and don't forget to consult one of the Scrutineers before building a new car.
The elected Management Committe for 2009 is:
- President - Noel Taylor
- Vice President - Brendan Podlich
- Treasurer - Peter Ward
- Secretary - Ray Lawrence
Due to the rain out, we'll push the meetings back to allow the Top Fuel, Pro Stock & bracket meet to be run as the next sheduled event on the 1st November.
Saturday 27 September was the day for setting more records. Todd Commons backed up times quicker than the Nitro Top Doorslammer record Brendan Podlich set in July, only to be outdone by Brendan who reset the record only minutes later by backing up his 1.699 qualifying pass with a 1.674!
Todd claimed the round win with his first sub 1.7 second pass beating Brendan in the final. Other winners include Ben Cruse in Extreme and Brendan in Shootout after Stewart hit the timing gear!
Reminder that the AGM is at 8am on 11 October at the SPSC Basketball Gym. Hope to see all financial members there to discuss rules & specs for 2009 and other important issues.
With it being over a Month since the last race meeting it was thought to be possibly a huge meet. Not so. A disappointing turnout didn't stop the racers who attended from having a great day on Saturday. Congratulations to Pete Ward for his achievement in resetting his own nitro Top Fuel dragster record to 137.5 kph. The first Nitro Drag car to go over 85 mph in Australia and setting the QMDRA record faster than the current IMDRA record in the USA!
Likewise, Brendan's Nitro Top Doorslammer record set at the July meet also set the QMDRA record quicker and faster than that currently in the IMDRA record books! Whilst meeting QMDRA specifications both cars conform the IMDRA specifications as well. Both Brendan and Pete showing that the QMDRA 's top drivers and cars are amongst the best in the World.
Brendan also claimed the nitro Top Doorslammer records with a 1.723 @ 132.6kph pass which was not quick enough to backup his previous pass of 1.681.
Brendan pictured right holding his record setting cars.
Apart from Brendan's blistering qualifying runs, a highlight for me was seeing the Top Doorslammer final between Brendan and Glenn. These guys ran side by side 1.7s with their nitro doorslammers which is another first on Australian soil! Brendan doing enough to beat Glenn to the line.
Extreme saw Pete take the win and Adrian whom just arrived back from the UK took out Shootout (again!!! he did it in round 2 after returning from Canada!) Congratulations to Brendan for his records in Extreme and Top Doorslammer, as well as the round winners Pete, Brendan and Adrian.
Todd set the Nitro Funny Car ET record to 1.809 seconds!
With a near perfect day and plenty of keen racers on the 14th June ensured records would tumble. Onlookers were not disappointed as Top Fuel saw the first sub 1.8 sec Nitro Funny Car pass in Australia. Todd's 1.761 @ 127.2 kph was achieved in the Top Fuel Final where he beat fellow Team mate Brendan who had been running consistant 1.6s with his nitro dragster.
Brendan didn't leave without writing himself in the QMDRA history book as he reset the Pro Stock speed record to 112.2 kph but was unable to make the final against Pete Ward handing him an easy win. Both Pete and Brendan say they have more of the same in Pro Stock and claim the ET record will be in the 1.9s soon!
Mr Consistant, Dan Eisenmenger took out the bracket class with his electric buggy.
Stewart managed to lay down consecutive 1.6 passes to reset the Extreme record to 1.668
Maybe the race meet held on Saturday should be named Lowday as Team Low had a clean sweep! Ryan took out Extreme after 'his old man' Stewart reset the ET record during qualifying. Brother Adrian, back from his World Holiday for a couple of weeks, made an effort to get his car running for Shootout and with luck on his side made eliminations and took the win! Great effort guys!
The next QMDRA event to be held on the 17th May will bring out the quickest RC Cars in Australia with predicted 1.4 second passes @ over 160km/h! Don't miss this spectacular event which includes a dial your own shootout that is ideal for beginners and bracket racers alike!
Come over to the South Pine Sports Complex on the 17th May to be entertained by the Quickest and Fastest RC Drag Cars in the Southern Hemisphere! Or better still, if you have a RC Car, buggy, bike or truck bring it along and give RC drag racing a go!
The excitement of the Dash4Cash drew a few extra competitors making this meeting the largest to date for 2008! Big Steve spread the word and brought along some on-road racers that seemed to enjoy the day. A field of 21 for the Dash4Cash ensured everyone needed to be on their game if they wanted to take home the money. Eventually, Glenn and Ben C fought out the final with Ben Cruse prevailing as the winner!
Leigh and Crew made the trek north from Sydney again enjoying themselves although a little worse for wear after a big night before! Leigh running his Pro Stock under the current nitro record to top qualify but was unable to back it up. However, Pete also went under and was able to back it up resetting the Nitro Pro Stock record to 2.048 @ 108.4 km/h. Pete won Pro Stock and also took out Top Fuel claiming a speed record in the process!
Congratulations to all the winners!
A big thanks to all the helpers and officials that made the day a great one! 39 entries across 4 classes and we were packed up by 4.30pm! Great work.
