The November 3rd points race is in the books.....sort of. We got off to a late start last saturday, and by the time qualifying ended it was almost 5 o'clock! We managed to get in all the rounds except Nitro Top fuel before it got completely dark. Using a few cars headlights we tried to light up the track but it still was not enough. So in the interest of safety (for the racers and their cars) we called the race with the semi's and finals to go in nitro top fuel. At the next points race during qualifying we will run those two rounds to determine the winner of the nov. 3rd race. It will be Ken Jones vs. Alex Garza and who ever wins that has to face Mark Rollings in the final round. Mark Rollings was top qualifier with a 1.55 ET.
It was a great day for racing. So much so we had to use every bit of daylight we could so we could keep racing. Here's how it went down. Jim Schauer took top qualifier in the extreme class with a 1.33 et. But it was Mark Rollings who took the event win due to Jimmy crossing the center line. In the Funny car class it was Nick Skinner who was top qualifier with a very impressive 1.59 ET. But when it came down to the finals it was Junior Self against Frank Ibarra. Junior self would get the win due to Frank forfeiting the race. In the Bracket class it was the battle of the kids. Brandon who is only 9 years old took top qualifier with a very nice .409 reaction time. The kid showing all the old timers how it's done. When it came down to the finals it was Brandon against Mackie "MacTools" Taylor. A 9 year old vs. a 14 year old, boy vs. girl. When the lights dropped Brandon left a little early and got the big "red eye",but then as Mackie made her way down the track she hit the ramps at the finish line. Giving the win to Brandon on a "first or worse" rule. Hitting the ramps is worse than red lighting. Congratulations to all the winners, it was a great race. Lots of fast times. Ken Jones has returned to racing after taking almost a year off. Glad to see your back to tear up nitro top fuel again. Our next race is December 1st and I believe this race will determine this years points champions in all classes. Only 2 points separates Nick Skinner and Mike Smith in Funny Car, and only 2 points separates Jim Schauer and Mark Rollings in Extreme. So be there or be square, its gonna be a good one. |
