2008 season starts off with a bang in the MHRA.

February 16 kicked off the MHRA's points season and man what a race. It was a bright sunny cool day in San Bernardino. With the track prepped and ready to go we started off with a short test and tune. After the TNT we got in to qualifying and man was it tight. In the bracket class it was Will Galan taking TQ with a .015 reaction time. Macky "Mac Tools" Taylor took the number 2 spot with a .021. But when it came down to the finals it was Brandon Laurenco who came from the number 6 spot to take the win over Mike Self. In the funny car class we saw 8 cars, 4 nitro, 4 electric and the competition was tight. Brian Boudakin took top qualifier with a 1.8032 E.T and Frank Ibarra was right behind him with a 1.8057. When it came down to the finals it was Brian Boudakin with his nitro power taking the win over Randy Sparing. Now on to Nitro Top Fuel. We saw what might be the quickest top fuel field in history. From the number 2 qualifier to the number 8 qualifier there was 7 thousandths of a second separating them. From a 1.69 to a 1.76, it was tight. There was 12 car all together with Mark Rollings taking top qualifier with a 1.631. Number 2 qualifier was Chris Smith with a 1.694. After very tough rounds it was Alex Garza taking home the win over Brian Hunnel. Brian Hunnel looked like he was going to take the win when Alex red lit but Brian's car hit the ramps at the end of the track. So the first or worse rule came in to effect. In the Extreme class there was only two cars that showed witch is very unusual for the MHRA but the show went on anyways. Chris Smith grabbed the number one spot with a 1.54, Mark Rollings was number two. Chris Smith took the event win over Mark when Mark did not show for the round.

Congratulations to all the winners, congrats to all the racers. This was an incredible event, fun to watch, fun to race. Can't wait for the next one. Speaking of witch, the next race is March 15th. Mark your calenders cause this race will also be a IMDRA west coast Regional race. Points will go to the MHRA points series and the IMDRA points series. For those of you that want to be a regional champion and also have points go towards a national champion chip. Get signed up with the IMDRA and come on out. Lets RACE.
