Race number 9 of the mhra’s 10 race championship series is in the books. It was a nice cool day with the temps around 75 degrees, made for some exciting close racing action. Winding down to the last 2 races of the 2009 season, championships are on everyone’s mind. After the days racing action came to a stop, four of the six championship classes were locked up. Starting off with the Bracket class it was rookie Rosalie C. locking up the point’s championship with a 288 point lead. Rosalie also took the race win in Bracket, her teammate Coty R. was top qualifier. In the Nitro Funny Car class it was Brian Boudakin who locked up the championship with his huge 380 point lead. Brian would make it to the finals to take on Mike Self, the hard charging Mike Self would take the race win. Mike was also top qualifier. In the ever exciting Electric Funny Car class it was Mark Rollings who locked up the championship. While his teammate Nick Skinner took the number one qualifying spot and the race win. Nick re-set both the ET and MPH records, lowering the ET record to a 1.4824 backed up with a 1.490. He raised the MPH record by 4 mph!! taking it from 96mph to 100.12 mph!! backed up with a 99.6mph. In the Electric Top Fuel Class Brian Boudakin would locked up the championship with his race win over Mike Smith. Mike was the top qualifier. The championship in the Nitro Top Fuel class is coming down to the last race. Brain Boudakin has a 107 point lead over Mark Rollings. These two went against each other in the race finals where Brian would take the win on a hole shot. Mark was top qualifier. There is one more class were the championship is still to be decided and that is the 2-cell class. Chris Smith leads the class but Jim “Rainman” Schauer is right on his tail only ten points behind. Jim Skinner sits in 3rd only 66 points behind Chris.
December 12th will be the MHRA’s final race of the 2009 season. With two championships on the line, it is sure to be an exciting race you don’t want to miss.
